    Live-action Twincest: Yay or nay?

Post by Mrs.Takagi on Fri Aug 05, 2011 11:05 pm

Alright people, it's time to open up and admit your true feelings on this one. . .

For those of you who have watched the first 4 episodes of this live-action drama (and I'm including episode 0),I'm sure you've all seen a few of the long anticipated "Twincest" moments between our favorite twin brothers (okay MY favorite), Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin!!

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but for me episodes 1 and 2 provided the best fanservice so far(they really didn't have one of their "moments" in episode 3).

Honestly, it's one thing to see 2 brothers being all lovey and affectionate in anime form, but to see 2 real life brothers doing the same thing in person. . .VERY different lol

I give actors Manpei and Shinpei Takagi TONS of credit for being able to pull off being so fliratious with each other on screen. I actually would've thought it might be awkward/difficult to do something like that but they seriously make it look so natural, you know? Wink I have to admit though, I was more than a little surprised when I read the article about Manpei describing how he and Shinpei "practice" flirting with one another at home. I was even more surprised when he added that sometimes 'they are unable to stop'. (Not that I'm complainin' though. . .I'm just saying, I was surprised. . .LOL)

All that says to me is that we can expect more awesome "twincest" scenes between these two in the future!

    Wow, I really seem like a real perv don't I. . . Twisted Evil

Alright, enough of my rambling. . .tell me what you guys think! Thoughts/comments/opinions. . .?

At first I thought it would be kind of wrong, with live action actors. And it did feel awkward at first.

But it turned out to be so, so right. XD

(and haha Manpei's just the king of making it worse. Or better. >w<)

I like it and I'm not afraid to admit it Very Happy I also thought they wouldn't be able to make it, but I'm happy I was wrong lol They pulled it off pretty well, they are great "actors" for that (OR ARE THEY REALLY ACTING). I kinda want to know how far they go when they "practice" at home (IF IT'S REALLY PRACTICE).

But I do have a friend that didn't like it, she says they are always on the verge of laughing D: I think it's more of a "flirting smile" D:

LOL Well of course they'd laugh: I have a slightly younger sister (who's kinda like my twin) and once we talked about how it would feel if we were to imitate the Hitachiins and do our own "sisterly love" schtick. . .

Not only was it awkward, but we both burst out laughing just THINKING about it. . . Laughing

Twins (to me) are slightly different than regular siblings though. . . they've got that 'secret, psychic connection' going on and what not. The Takagi twins do seem very close to each other in real life though. . .to the point where maybe doing "fake flirting" with each other isn't that big of a deal. . . Hug

For me, I actually began liking the Hitachiin twins because the Takagi twins pulled it off so well. Maybe it's because we know that they literally practice the role at home, maybe it felt more attractive. xD

I mean, they really have the chemistry to pull it off. What's even better is that, I think, Shinpei wanted to do this role beforehand, so I was like 'Uwa. Even better! >//<'

I've always loved the twins ever since I first saw the anime (which was my first exposure to OHHC at all) and they definitely two of my favorite characters out of the whole series, not even because of Hitachiincest but just because I really love the guys.

But yeah, I was definitely concerned as to how they would pull it off in the live action - I was kind of under the impression they might cut it out entirely, but the Takagi twins seem really natural together (hmmm...might be because they PRACTICE AT HOME) and I'm impressed. :3 Nodding

(Although they also seem to be the number one reason why none of the friends I've shown OHHC get into it... Neutral )

I'm actually not a fan of twincest, but I don't get grossed out by the live action at all like some of the reactions I've seen outside of Tumblr. I think it's because these actors are just so cute for the twins that I can't dislike it - instead of thinking "ewww gross, they're real brothers" I think "aww, they're adorable!" And they pull the act off surprisingly well IMO, I don't see how it's awkward when they act just like their manga/anime counterparts. I don't even like twincest but it's a 'yay' for me because of the acting. (:

Hmm...you bring up an interesting point, my friend. Smile

I was thinking about how the twincest scenes would be if they had picked actors who looked very robotic and "rehearsed" when they did their scenes together. . .also, I think it helps that the twins near do anything TOO inappropriate (unncessary groping, touching, etc).
All they really do is little soft gestures: hand on the face, finger on the chin, hugging. . .stuff that's considered "taboo" but not completely gross, you know? Laughing

    [Spoilers]
But now that I think about it, so far the only tiny moment between them that really made me go Shocked was during the physical exam episode and during their little fanservice bit and Shinpei (Hikaru) actually stroked the back of his finger against Manpei's (Kaoru's) chest. . .

(Seriously, how did they DO that all while keeping a straight face. . .??)

But yeah, I totally needed a cold shower after that. . .

Watching it in the Anime is a completely different thing...I mean when watching the Anime you see the twincest, but you don't really relate to it...

But seeing the Twins, like this, in real life...It makes my heart pound :<3: I get a full on heart-boner.
I start feeling all giddy...I love those twins, they are spot on for Hikaru and Kaoru!!

I didn't like them right away, but they're really starting to grow on me! Embarassed Did everyone easily tell Manpei-Shinpei apart the first time you saw them? I had quite a hard time to do that, they're so identical. But lately... (the result of re-watching the episodes too much Razz ) I'm starting to be able to tell them apart, and I think I'm a fan of Manpei drunken

Chiba Yudai(Honey-sempai) mentioned in the Ep0 Cast Talk that the S&M character of Takagi twin is the exact opposite of the Hitachiin twin. Soo... since,
    Hikaru(Shinpei) = S ; Kaoru(Manpei) = M

    it means...

    Manpei = S ; Shinpei = M ??? I just thought that's an interesting fact Smile

I think I read somewhere that Takagi twin in real life is also very close, and often goes out together. But Yamamoto Yusuke made a comment that Shinpei is more sociable than Manpei, bcoz when Yusuke invited the twin to go out together and have a meal, only Shinpei came^^

I didn't care much abt the Hitachiin twin when I watched the anime, but after I read the last half of the manga (the twin stories which were not in the anime), I come to understand and like their characters more. So far, for me, the Takagis are OK as the Hitachiins. I think I can only really judge them when they get episodes when the Hitachiin Twin are the focus. I really, really hope the Karuizawa episode and the class skiing trip would be in the live-action! *v* Those were the stories where the twin gets to shine!

I see there are many fans of the Takagi Twin here!^v^ Pls teach me more about them, yoroshiku nee~

Wow, I really enjoyed your last post there, yanie. Interesting stuff that wasn't discussed before.

It's funny that you mentioned that at first you couldn't tell Takagi twins apart, but after re-watching the episodes (which I'm totally guilty of as well lol) it became easier to tell them apart, and I'd definitely have to agree on that.

It's funny to me because so many of the fangirls are leaning more towards Manpei. . .(oh no, more competition!! Evil or Very Mad )

Now I watched the ep 0 where they interviewed the cast, but since there's no sub available (as far as I know) I didn't really understand a lot of the dialouge. Now when you said that that Chiba Yudai mentioned that the "S&M" characters of the Hitachiin's were completely opposite of the Takagi's. . .forgive my ignorance but can you tell me exactly what that means. . .? Suspect

    LOL
I think I kinda understand it, but I just wanna be sure. . .(so was he saying that Manpei is the more 'dominant' one in their relationship, or is it the other way around or what. . .?)

I also like the fact that other people are beginning to tell the twins apart, based on their personalities.
From watching a couple of interviews with Manpei and Shinpei (and just from observing how they take pictures), I'd definitely agree that between the two of them, Shinpei seems to be the more outgoing/energetic twin: While watching them do interviews together I noticed that Shinpei tends to do most of the talking, and he seems more animated when he talks as well.

Then on the flip-side, I recently was reading some blogs the twins had posted a few years ago, and Manpei mentioned at least 2 or 3 times how he likes eating by himself when he can, and doesn't mind being alone.

Also, when they speak, I think their voices sound slightly different. . .or maybe that's just me. . .?

And yes, they're very close: They call each other "Man-chan" and "Shin-chan" and I know Shinpei often refers to Manpei as his "big brother" (How sweet!! I love you ) In another blog entry I found, Shinpei had mentioned that he had caught a cold but that "Manpei is taking good care of me."

Could they BE anymore adorable. . .?

I honestly don't think they could've picked better actors to play the Hitachiin brothers. I'm really looking foward to more episodes centered around them too. Even though I love all the main characters at this point, I'd really like to see the Takagi's get more screen time Very Happy

I admit I was worried about how it would turn out to begin with- I didn't want them to tone down the interaction- but I loved it! Manpei and Shinpei do a fantastic job! Its so sexy and sweet! Now I have naughty images involving them two....especially after the whole practising at home thing!

Oh there hadn't been any translations for that Ep0 Cast Talk?? I'll try to work on them soon then!^v^

S = sadistic / likes to bully the weaks
    M = masochist / don't mind being bullied

In Japan, sometimes it's also an exagerrating term for extrovert and introvert.

According to Chiba, Manpei is S and Shinpei is M. Which Shinpei agreed to. Chiba said, in real life, Shinpei is the softer one^^

I see... that's interesting! I really can't tell them apart yet, by their personalities.

In the GOLDEN CAST interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2-d93Y8e-s), Haruna-chan chose Manpei to do this comedian duo's joke thing together with her. I kept wondering why did she choose Manpei Smile

Wow, that all makes SOOO much more sense to me now. . .thank you for explaining it to me Laughing

But seriously, you really confirmed my observations about their personalities:

Manpei is the more dominant one and Shinpei is the more submissive one. From they way they act, you'd think they were a few years apart in age instead of just a few minutes apart. . .LOL

[I assume that you understand Japanese, or at least are semi-fluent?]
No fair Evil or Very Mad
    haha

No really, I was just going to say that if you understood Japanese, then you could go online and look up some of those interviews with the twins I was talking about (so you can get a better idea of the differences in their personalities.)

This one is a good example:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5gM3ginLTo&feature=player_embedded

I have no idea what they're talking about other than when they introduced themselves LOL I like watching them and listening to them talk anyway Rolling Eyes but the clip really proves the S&M theory about them in my opinion.

Oh and thanks in advance for offering to work on the translation for episode 0!! Although if you find that it's going to be too much of a hassle for you, don't even worry about it.

And just as an after thought. . .I was thinking about what you said about the twins being identical. . .part of me thinks this is also true. . .but lately these days, the more I stare at them (creepy, yes. I know. . .) I've kinda noticed subtle differences between the two of them. . .but I mean you REALLY have to just look directly at them for several minutes at a time lol!

Look at how they keep staring at each other! mwahahaaha~ I couldn't concentrate on what they say, coz they keep putting arms arnd each other, and staring at each other. Oh, it was my pleasure! I found it while randomly searching yahoo last week. . .and you're right, the clip DOES show a lot of the twincest Laughing (But you have to admit, it was totally obvious that Shinpei was doing most the talking and Manpei just sort of chimed in here and there, kinda sat quietly. . .lol)
And YES, the constant staring!! Not just quick glances, but full out just staring at into each others face (like they were doing that reading each others minds/telepathy/voodoo stuff that twins are so infamous for!)

And yes, the best thing for me about these twins (which is totally noticable, no matter who you are) is the obvious love/affection they have for each other. It's not fake, it's not forced, and totally natural. See, when they were staring at each other, it was their non-verbal way of saying. .

    Shinpei: ~I love you, man.~
Manpei: ~I love you too, bro.~

    AHHH! IT'S SO TOUCHING! T_T

Oh pls don't misunderstand, I won't be doing it for you, but for myself Twisted Evil Hahahaha, j/k. But really, I caught OURAN FEVER currently. I can't pass a day without doing something "ouran"! XD So translating them is really for my sake too, lol. Just worried before that someone else have subbed them, hehe...

Hey, I'm in no position whatsoever to turn down free translations. . . tongue Because I've got Ouran Fever too (I actually think there's an Ouran virus going around. . .) And I'm sure the translations would be much appreciated, as it's been nearly 3 weeks and no one has put up subtitles for episode 0 yet. . .because if they had, I would've found them by now Laughing
Take all the time in the world, just please send out an announcement/reminder when you're done.

Ha! Now I'm excited all over again. . . cheers

To sum it up...I love it. Smile They are my fave characters in the show, I LOVE their scenes together, I didn't think they would go as far as they did (I really love that) and they were the reason why I watched the show in the first place.

    HIKARU AND KAORU FOREVERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cheers
